Path Lights

Path Lights

Pathlighting not only adds beauty to the landscape design but is also a safety feature.

Path lights are ground-mounted fixtures, about 16-24″ tall, usually used in multiples, that provide charming and functional lighting along a pathway. Stagger pathway lights about 6 to 8 feet apart to offer just enough light to see while walking. Staggering also avoids the “runway effect” that can occur when the lights are evenly distributed along the path.

As a design element, path lights create a ground plan that bridges other lighting, like accent lighting on trees. Pathlighting also helps to ground uplit trees, to avoid a ghostly appearance of floating.

Design Tip: Path lights may also be used sparingly in planting beds to emphasize the shape of the bed, or the low plantings within the bed.

Path lighting is a great way to fill the need of light in areas that you normally walk through but don’t want a huge focus light. They are able to highlight your pathway, driveway, change in elevation, mark a step or even just give your garden that soft touch of light that it is missing. Because path lighting is so versatile it is a staple in most yards or gardens but yet very subtle making this a perfect application however you decide to use them.
